To reinforce its commitment to decrease needless mortalities among pregnant women by enhancing safe delivery, Broll Property Group, a progressive commercial property services company, has donated safe delivery kits at various maternity centres in Lagos, Nigeria. The effort is meant to promote maternal health and reduce the country's high maternal mortality rate.

The 'Broll Mama Kit' was distributed to expecting mothers by a team of Broll Nigeria officials at public health centres in various locations, including Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Onigbongbo Primary Healthcare Centre, Sura Primary Health Centre, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Memorial Health Centre and Agarawu Primary Health Centre.

Speaking on this initiative by the company, Bolaji Edu, Chief Executive Officer of Broll Nigeria, stated that "the period of birth is a special time for both mother and child. Here in Nigeria, it can also be a time of challenges when some of the facilities needed by expecting mothers are not available. Our aim is to provide these needs to improve safe delivery and reduce maternal mortality. We believe this will go a long way to support families through the joy of safe delivery. This will ensure we contribute to the sustainable development goals of the government and we hope to continue doing more."

Although health experts estimate that the global maternal mortality rate has dropped by 43%, Nigeria is still ranked as one of the countries in Sub-Saharan Africa with a high number of pregnancy-related deaths, ahead of Sierra Leone, the Central African Republic and Chad. Edu further reiterated that Broll's contribution augments the government's efforts at various levels to reduce maternal mortality in the country.

In appreciation of the kits that were distributed, Mrs Adebukola Cole, Apex Nurse/ADNS of Lagos Island Maternity Centre, said "This is a laudable programme. The gift is handy and will be of benefit to the pregnant women. At the time of delivery, all you need can be found in the 'Broll Mama Kit'. We are very grateful."

A joint report by WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank and the United Nations Population Fund, titled Trends in Maternal Mortality: 1990 to 2015, estimates that Nigeria suffered approximately 58,000 maternal deaths in 2015 which represent 19 percent of global maternal mortalities. With this initiative, Broll has shown its willingness to work with stakeholders to reduce the maternal mortality rate by providing its safety kits to pregnant women at public health centres.
